Lab of Medical Physics & Digital Innovation, School of Medicine, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki

The Aristotle University of Thessaloniki participates in the TWIN-X project via the School of Medicine, represented by the Lab of Medical Physics and Digital Innovation (AUTH iMedPhys). AUTH iMedPhys is a dynamic, interactive scientific community, the largest laboratory of AUTH, with extensive research activity, funding, and academic outputs. The Lab is pioneering in research fields such as assistive technologies for health and wellbeing, living labs, digital twins, cancer informatics, virtual reality, applied neuroscience, medical education technology, biomedical imaging, and other contemporary thematic areas. It hosts state-of-the-art facilities, including a Digital Living Lab space, a hospital-based Healthcare Transitions Living Lab, a Short Arm Human Centrifuge Rehabilitation Lab, a fully equipped Neuroscience Laboratory with high-density EEG, neurofeedback, OPM-MEG (BioMEGa), as well as an Immersive Cube and other equipment.

Role within TWIN-X

AUTH is involved in the majority of project activities and leads WP4. As leader of WP4, AUTH is responsible for the development of social determinants of health (SDOH) and environmental exposure representations for the TWIN-X Digital Twin framework. AUTH leads the mapping and harmonisation of relevant data sources, establishes governance and ethics procedures, develops exposure models and embeddings, and delivers harmonised SDOH and exposure variables for integration into downstream project activities. Within WP2, AUTH contributes to WP2 by ensuring compatibility of WP4 outputs with the common patient representation schema. AUTH further contributes to WP5, WP6 and WP7 through the integration and evaluation of WP4 outputs. AUTH will bring its expertise in health data analytics, human-centered and clinical AI, patient-generated data and know-how from past European research projects, such as the H2020 LifeChamps and COMFORT HE projects, to support the successful implementation of TWIN-X.
