Radboud University Medical Center (Radboudumc) is a leading academic medical centre in Nijmegen, the Netherlands, integrating patient care, education, and research with a focus on making a real difference to patients with serious illnesses. The Diagnostic Image Analysis Group (DIAG) operates across the departments of Radiology and Nuclear Medicine, Pathology, and Cardiology, and is internationally recognised for pioneering research in AI-based medical image analysis. DIAG develops, validates, and deploys deep learning methods for computer-aided diagnosis across oncology, cardiovascular disease, and other complex clinical domains. The group has organised landmark international benchmarks including PICCAI and PANCAIM, and published in journals such as JAMA and Nature Medicine. Radboudumc’s clinical expertise and volume in cardiovascular imaging together with its strong infrastructure for real-world data collection and validation make it a key clinical validation partner in TWIN-X.

Role within TWIN-X

Radboudumc serves as a clinical validation partner across multiple work packages in TWIN-X. In WP2, Radboudumc contributes to the development of radiology report templates and validates text structuring pipelines on cardiovascular cohorts. In WP3, Radboudumc validates radiology segmentation and embedding models on coronary CT, aortic CT, and cardiac MRI data, providing expert reader feedback and testing vendor robustness. In WP4, Radboudumc supplies clinical acceptance criteria and validation datasets for social determinant integration. In WP5, Radboudumc acts as an early adopter of the integrated digital twin framework, running site acceptance tests on cardiology pathways. In WP6, Radboudumc contributes cardiovascular imaging cohorts and adjudicates clinical endpoints for the cardiology demonstrator study focused on cardiomyopathy and coronary artery disease. Radboudumc also participates in human factors studies (WP7) and provides clinical faculty for the consortium training programme (WP8).
